R.I.P. Luis Vasquez, aka The Soft Moon

Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Luis Vasquez, who was the driving force behind The Soft Moon. I’ve long been a fan of his work, and to see him go out under what appears to be a fentanyl overdose which took also the lives of two others is just brutal.

“It is with great sadness that we announce our dear friend, Luis Vasquez has passed away,” goes the statement on The Soft Moon socials. “Our hearts and thoughts are with his family, friends and extended music family. We ask to respect their privacy during this difficult time…This is a huge loss and our hearts are broken.”

I really dug the stuff Vasquez was releasing under The Soft Moon moniker, the post-punk/darkwave/industrial elements. Below is a review I did for The Boston Phoenix back in 2012 for his second album, Zeros. After that is the video for one of the songs which resonated at the time – and still does – “Insides.”
