There’s been a whole lot of grumbling about Chris and Rich Robinson deciding to “reunite” The Black Crowes with only themselves as original members, but those guys are just putting their heads down and playing music. The lengthy trek to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut LP, Shake Your Money Maker, doesn’t begin until June, so the siblings decided to launch a surprise mini-tour featuring just the two of them doing songs from the band acoustically in intimate venues under the moniker “Brothers of a Feather,” which they first used in 2006.
Following two shows in Europe, the Robinsons kicked off some U.S. dates last night at a very packed Brighton Music Hall in Boston, and I covered it for Ultimate Classic Rock. It may not change anyone’s mind about the summer-to-fall run being a cash grab, but seeing them do some of those huge hits and deeper cuts stripped down was nothing to complain about.
