Interview with Ian Astbury of The Cult

This week, UK rock and roll stalwarts The Cult are coming to the end of a tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their mainstream breakthrough LP Sonic Temple, which got the box set treatment back in October. The band has been on the road since the spring marking the occasion, with the final show taking place in Boston this Saturday.

I caught up with frontman Ian Astbury for a highly entertaining interview at Vanyaland in the style of 617, where we ask six questions, ask for one recommendation and then throw seven things at the subject on which to comment. Pretty sure this is the only interview with the singer where he talks about Joy Division, Sonic the Hedgehog and my fantasy football team.

Also of note, the day the interview ran, Vanyaland was named Music Publication of the Year at the 2019 Boston Music Awards. Coincidence? Maybe…
