Rising Synth Star Johnny Dynamite on Vampires, The Cure, and His Comic Book Anti-Hero Lineage

Johnny Dynamite first came onto my radar with his 2021 instant earworm masterpiece “Bats in the Woods,” which we were pretty stoked about over at Vanyaland too. Ahead of multiple shows hitting the New England area, I got the man himself to take part in a proper 617 Q&A where we talked about his new single, “Straitjacket Summer Love,” being influenced by The Cure and what his favorite vampire movies were. Luckily, he’s got the Bloodsuckers as his bandmates and had one of them step in with the assist.

We also touched on the Johnny Dynamite name, which was originally a comic book character from the ‘50s that his grandfather, Pete Morisi, created. Check out the interview, and take a look at the video for the song that started it all for me below.
